Take a Look Around the World
Mar. 17th, 2003 10:35 pmI didn't want to mention the war anymore, because I'm sensitive to how this sounds a little like preaching -- I think everyone has already made a decision about what they think, and there's no argument which will change their minds.
But ---> I saw the preparations for war in Iraq today, on the telly, and I couldn't help feeling depressed. The cars lining up for petroleum were beaten up, falling apart. The food markets were nothing more than planks of wood with fruits piled on it. The weapons being bought by civilians were ridiculous old, second-hand guns. This is what America is going to invade and destroy, a country already poor and... pathetic!
Saddam is evil. I'm not disagreeing. But can he really get any "weapons of mass destruction" out of there? Aren't they surrounded by sattelites taking ultra modern photos of trucks!?! Seems all so preposterous. All of these thoughts and realizations make me feel very pessimistic about the world.
Every second, every day, something essential gets lost to the unworthy.
