Today is 80s party in my office! you are invited... we can dance on top of the empty desk table beside me, we can turn off the neon lights and make shadows of ourselves on the starch walls (bring a torchlamp for that, please.)

It will get hot and we'll get out of our clothes. Oingo Boingo's Stay just played... it's now Billy Idol's Hot in the City. The songs just keep coming.

Grand

*************

Nothing like starting the morning with Karma Chameleon in the kitchen, spilling tea everywhere, eating toast with flora and a piece of lemon cake. Silke and I did silly dances, but Kevin refused to join.

And we couldn't leave out Kim Wilde's Kids in America.

*************

Don't forget the party! I'm waiting for you. If we are lucky, we'll get locked in for the night. We'll raid the department's fridge for our dinner; we'll take short breaks between our dancing. I'll even let you smash some of the old printers lying about, if Joan Jett comes on.

Count your lucky stars.

I must have fallen asleep, because when I woke up [livejournal.com profile] icymorning was sitting at the end of my bed, talking to me.

She looked tiny, like a little girl, and she wore a white dress. Her skin glowed as if sunkissed.

She said: "Sinead was right, you must follow your dreams. You have to do in life what you love the most."

And I said: "But Sinead could have meant something else. She could have meant that you must follow your dreams when you are asleep. That you must not turn away from them, no matter how frightening they might be. You must follow your dreams."

So Morgane smiled.

My mother, who was in the living room (otherwise known as Silke's bedroom) answered the phone. Morgane's father was coming over. I was frightened because I didn't know how he would react to his daughter being in a gay man's apartment. Morgane pulled the mattress underneath my bed and lay on it. I found my baby-blue duvet in the closed and covered her. She was fast asleep.

The doorbell rang and I went to answer it. I asked my mom to be by my side so we could talk to Morgane's father. He came in and we took him to the kitchen.

And I said: "She came here, she ran away, because I'm editing her novel. She feels that you don't support her... but you don't understand what a great talent she has."

Her father said: "She's only a child! She's 11 years old."

To which I replied: "You can't be serious!" I went to the kitchen counter and picked up her passport. I showed it to him: the passport said she was 21 years old.
