(no subject)

I'm leaving for Sweden, Stockolm, today, around 8:40pm. Karla (slave2dafunk) found some cheap cheap tickets a few months ago (£30, tax included) and, because her brother lives there, we don't have to worry about paying for a hotel/hostel.

We come back Tuesday night.

Karla's brother is having some kind of party on saturday, and there's also some talk about hash brownies... on Sunday, Karla has to meet up with an old friend from Hong Kong; Kevin and I will have some time on our own to explore the city.

Mostly, we expect it to be a very chilled out trip. It's our last vacation this Summer.

I'm tempted to buy an airport novel: Jackie Collins, Stephen King... I would definetly pay for Valley of the Dolls. There's no point holding on to the high brow... specially after watching something like Freddy Vs. Jason last night. That movie made me think of Roman orgiastic rituals of blood, and lobotomy.

Thursday in Sweden

The first thing you notice when you step out of the airplane (Ryanair) is the fresh air. It's night and you must catch an airport bus to the centre of Stockholm. The drive will take an hour and 40 minutes. Outside the airport, a blonde cherubic prince walks by you. He's the first of the thousands of beautiful men you will see.

The bus is empty and you sing "Abba Abba Abba"! Everywhere you look, forests and a cloudless dark sky. The taxi driver that you pick from outside the bus station takes you to Universitetet, aided by a digital map that tells him where his car is going. He has a photo of himself on the glove compartment, staring into the distance like Stalin.

Karla's brother Glenn (Canadian) and his girlfriend Tina (Finnish) serve you Gato Negro red wine and spicy popcorn. An old re-run of Baywatch is on the television, with swedish subtitles. The Swedish never ever dub any movies or tv shows. The Swedish speak perfect english, sometimes with believable American or British accents. A Swede with an Irish accent must be a delicacy.

The spare bedroom is given to yourself and your boyfriend. Karla sleeps on the couch. Glenn and Tina, already from the beginning, are the perfect hosts.
