Under the milkyway, tonight
Feb. 9th, 2004 11:42 amWe drove almost an hour away from the farm to Pouso Alegre:

It´s not a pretty city, but it´s the only near place where I can buy some shorts, exchange my pounds, visit an old childhood friend who I haven´t seen for 12 years and who owns a pancake house, and do some internet.
They are supposed to install a wireless internet connection at the farm, which should plunge me back into the warm intrigues of Livejournal´s world.
My life at the farm has been very quiet, slow, filled with home-cooked foods (beans, rice, steaks, fried chicken, sweet potatoes, coffee, papaya, boiled veggies), reading, Big Brother Brasil 4!! (England take note: the secret for watchable Big Brother is to put people who want the money at all costs), once in a while spotting relatives who look like tiny children covered with folds and folds of skin.
In the mornings, my brother and I take the dogs (Tony and Tete) for walks. One day we´ll climb the hill that overlooks the village until we reach the giant cross. We´ll watch the slow pace of the village and the mountains beyond, which surround us. Another day, we´ll walk up another mountain until we reach the water "box" which supplies water to the whole village. A man was there who allowed us to drink from the water's source. I keep my eyes open for any snakes because if I get bitten they would have to drive me for more than an hour to the nearest hospital with medicines.
On Thursday or Friday I´m taking a bus back to Sao Paulo and meeting up with my friend Henrique. He wants to take me to his family´s beach house for the weekend.
Tonight, I'm going outside and looking up: we can see the milkyway when there are no clouds.
