I can say the following about yesterday's Low concert: they made me want to close my eyes and follow the show purely in the dark, they were incredibly kind to their audience by playing in a theatre where everyone had a seat, they veered close to sentimentality, they were moving, their new songs weren't that bad, and they were supported by Kid Dakota, a band that sounded like old time country musicians bashing out Interpol songs. Half way through the concert, Low asked the audience to shout anything they wanted, to express themselves. Someone shouted "Why?" Then a man cried out "I hate brussel sprouts!" And someone else completed "Me too!" By then, everyone was laughing and getting carried away. The band had to tell everyone to shut up so they could get back to their music, but not before a man near the stage shouted "But I like brussel sprouts!" Low were such a success that the crowd demanded two encores.

I used today to buy all the remaining things necessary for my trip to Brasil: shampoo, tooth paste, shaving cream, books (with Waterstone's gift vouchers given to me by my co-workers), a Beatles' mug (as a gift for my brother's girlfriend), a polo t-shirt for myself (black, with white stripes - I've decided to embrace my geekiness) and Euros.

At 3pm, I met up with [livejournal.com profile] mistressmalaise outside of the Photographer's Gallery. She was looking around, trying to find the gallery, when I sort of jumped on her crying out "Sarah!" She didn't know what hit her by the time I'd given her a hug and started walking towards Covent Garden. We wandered around searching for a pub like thirsty desert travellers. Everywhere seemed packed but we finally found some seats in a pub off the beaten track. As I drank my pint of Kronenberg and she sipped on her pint of cider, her cellphone rang. Both [livejournal.com profile] adrasteah and [livejournal.com profile] steer were in the neighbourhood and wanted to meet up. We downed our pints and headed for Covent Garden's tube. This time, Sarah got the drinks while I took care of our table in the White Lion. As we waited for the other two to arrive, Sarah saw someone who looked like Orlando Bloom walk by (it might, or might not, have been him).

Then Steer and Kirsten arrived and just as we were all settling down I had to leave. I think [livejournal.com profile] sneerpout and [livejournal.com profile] mr_tom were supposed to come too and I'm sorry I missed seeing them (if they had come, they would have been proud of my Ken Macleod purchase that afternoon - am looking forward to reading Newton's Wake!) In any case, it was kinda nice seeing these three people whom I hadn't met in real life yet for a quick pint... like they were saying goodbye to me before I embark to Brasil? It made my day. Also, a mystery was finally solved - one of those three people confessed to being the anonymous person who bought me two-months of Livejournal paid account! I won't say who it was because I'm not sure if that person wishes to abandomn their anonymous status. Suffice to say, it was just like an Agatha Christie mystery - all the clues suddenly made sense and the motive was a good one!

I rushed through the busy streets of London and reached Kevin and Silke just in time for us to decide to go to the cinema. We ended up watching A Very Long Engagement, which was actually better than what most people made it out to be. Essentially, a sweet love story with far too many french characters and beautiful french countryside to look at. Also, there was an actor with a large mustache who had the most beautiful forearms I've seen in a long long time. Worth the ticket price alone.

I need to pack my suitcase now and figure out what's missing, etc. Therefore, I won't have time to read anyone's journals this weekend. Hope you are all having fun this Saturday. Tomorrow evening, as I fly over the Atlantic ocean, spare a second to wish a good movie is playing in front of me! Being treated as a sardine is bad. Made to watch Meg Ryan or Tom Hanks movies is even worse! How much do you wanna bet it's going to be that awful Steven Spielberg film about someone (Tom Hanks!) living in an airport? Arghh!!!
