The Bem-te-vi tried again to get into my bedroom this morning. Twice.

I woke up from achy dreams to the singing on the balcony and tapping on the glass window. This went on for 10 minutes. Finally, I got out of bed, pissed off at the little bugger, and pulled the curtains open. Once again it flew into the trees. I went back to bed and tried to sleep but half-an-hour later it was back and doing it's schtick again. This time it got bored after a few tries and returned to the trees.

Question: why does this bird want to get into my bedroom so badly? For these past two weeks, I've been leaving all my windows and the balcony door open during the day. It has plenty of chances to wander around my room, poo on the bedsheats... it could even peck my eyes out during one of my afternoon naps. But no! The little devil has to come into the room when all the curtains are drawn and I'm asleep.

In classical times, some cultures considered birds the messengers of gods. Question: is the little Bem-te-vi trying to tell me something? Should I not catch that plane on Tuesday?

Some thoughts on the movie The Age of Innocence )

My mom took me out for lunch today. We went to Hotel Garfo de Ouro's restaurant (The Golden Fork Hotel) but the buffet was cold and I wasn't hungry. She then took me to Cambui's only newsagent but I didn't find any magazines I wanted to read. Finally, we stopped at the videostore to get a membership and rent some movies. I chose Gangs of New York and Van Helsing (the second choice only because I couldn't find anything else that wasn't dubbed - and because the girl working there said it was a "lovely" film). My mom chose two movies for herself, Calendar Girls and something else.

After watching The Age of Innocence last night, I got in the mood for watching other Scorcese movies set in New York. In fact, just like people have Star Wars marathons, I think it would be cool to have a Scorcese marathon with only his "New York" movies, watching them in historical order to see whether there is some theme that links all of them together (other than the Big Apple itself - D'uh!)

When we got back, Nicholas, my grandmother, the caretaker's wife (Maria) and her daughter (Gabriela) were sitting outside, in the shades. A conversation between my mother and my grandmother:

Mom: Why don't we put the yellow mat outside for Nicholas to lie down? It would be good for him to sleep out here and get some fresh air.
Grandma: But then a spider could come and sting him!
Mom: Have you ever heard, in all of your life, of someone who laid down on a mat, underneath a tree, and got stung by a spider?
Grandma: If you put your hand on the spider, then it will sting you!
Mom: Then don't put your hand on it.

My mom lay down with Nicholas and they fell immediatly asleep. I got myself a louge chair and tried to write something in my notebook, but I got distracted by the clouds in the sky, the flocks of birds that circled us, the occasional plane that flew by, the bells ringing in Córrego, the dogs playing on the grass or barking at random things and Gabriela's chatter about her crayons and the pigeon she has on a box and which she is nursing back to health.

I'm going to snack on something soon, take a shower, then go watch one of the rented movies. In 48 hours, I should be inside a plane across the Atlantic. I can't wait to see Kevin and The Sissys!
