Brasilian thoughts

A brazilian friend, Luciana, invited me over to her place tomorrow for a feijoada... it's a typical brazilian dish, a type of stew, with black beans, various types of meat, some spices (i think)... it's very heavy and makes you go sleepy. Perfect for a sunday. Her mother is in town and it will be nice to be around brazilians and talk about Londrina.

Soon, my mother will be here as well. She's visiting at the end of September, for a week. I'm planning on taking her to see a musical (because she loves them), the great London bookstores (like Foyles), and maybe the big department stores (she adores them.)

I'll probably get very homesick after her visit... i hope I can go back to Brazil for Christmas. Even my brother, who never writes emails to me, has been more in contact lately. It's as if we have reached the half-way point of the year and we have to start re-familiarizing ourselves with each other, before Christmas.

Christmas is about the food for me... and jokes, champagne, warm weather, old vinyl records from my parents collection playing on the stereo. I don't even think we erected a tree last year.

is it like a neighbourhood where all of them live? Apparently, the largest community of Brazilians outside Brasil is in America.

hmmm... i live in a brazilian area in London and they do stick together. Sadly, I don't know any brazilians here apart from my friend Luciana... who lives across town.

no...but you eat it with caipirinhas, which are a heavy booze drink. You make them with Sugar Cane Spirits, lime, sugar and lots of ice... add the feijoada to that and you get very sleepy.
