Welcome to the Sunny Day

It's the most beautiful day in London's history. It's sunny and bright outside. People in the tube were wearing shorts and t-shirts, smiling into their newspapers. Nobody can believe that this Monday is suddenly warm as a mid-summer day.
I watched the news before I left home. They were just as amazed as me. Nobody can quite explain this sudden change in the weather, but everyone's loving it. They are expecting a lot of people to call in sick today, or take the day off. The parks are going to get filled with sunbathers, the streets full of shoppers and strollers. I'm thinking of going for a walk by the Thames on my lunch break, watching people swim in the waters. And I'd like to thank Global Warming for making this possible.
News programmes on television were also showing crowds of Goths congregating in Camden Town, throwing their black clothes into fires and putting on floral prints. Punk kids were taking their piercings off their faces and sharing giant mugs of fruit juice. Some children were dancing. One of the reporters joined the celebrations and chucked his microphone into the fire. I don't know what happened next because they lost transmission.
I'm sitting in my office, already hoping for my lunch break. I'm wearing a T-shirt, shorts and sandals. I might forego all previous behaviour and put on a Grateful Dead cd. And if I lit up a joint, I'm sure I wouldn't be punished.
Now I must go play some Tetris and wait for this brilliant day to be over.

on 2003-12-01 06:16 pm (UTC)...Why don't goths throw their black clothes in the fire down here? I mean, at least in London goths realize how stupid it is to wear long black clothes on sunny days. And what the fuck do you need combat booths for in Florida??? How the FUCK are these punks gonna tell me it's not fashion? Uh, if you wear combat boots for no reason except to fit into your scene, and/or because you like the way they look, that's fashion...
