In 4 hours, I'll be lining up outside Endemol studios - the place where Big Brother is filmed. There will be some Livejournal people with me, but also fans of the show from across the country. Some of them will amuse me with their chants of "Vote for Nadia" or "Save Dan!". Others will repel me in their Klingonesque desire to dress up as the house characters, or the way their voices will be raised as they argue with someone else about who should win the show.

If I knew what was the meaning of schadenfreude, I'd say I was experiencing it.

Before I head over to King's Cross station, I'm meeting Kevin for a beer. The weather is muggy and overcast in London - there has been some threat of rain. My mind keeps travelling forward, to the cameras, the screaming hordes, the incomprehension of standing outside a metallic fort where people are imprisonmed for our amusement. If I say too much now I won't have anything to tell tomorrow.

The clock at work is almost running backwards - even the machines are bored.

Scadenfreude literally means "pleasure derived from the misfortunes of others." I've mostly seen it used when describing the practice of "stepping on everyone else to get to the top".

Then I'm correct in believing I might experience that tonight.

Yup! What time will this be happening? Maybe I'll tune in just to see if I can spot you.

It will start at 9 on the telly (but 8 for us who are lining up outside). Then it continues at 10. I'm wearing a black shirt, glasses... I have an icon in my journal with my face on it, but I'll probably be too non-descript for you to recognize me. But, if I'm near a camera, I'll wave.

By the way, I want to wish you a good and safe trip to Paris. Let the muse for your novel be found inside a glass bottle, or a snuff box - inside anything that you can bring back with you.

I wish I could watch it. I was in England when the first big brother was ending and I loved it.

This is the best Big Bro by far. They chose very big characters and their slogan this year is "Big Brother goes Evil" - You can just imagine what kind of evil things the producers have done to them! It's been a roller coaster.

Ahhh! It was great talking to you. Don't worry babe, things will work out for you in Toronto. Just have to give it time. I'm sure you'll find a better job than the one you had here.

I don't know who he is. And I don't think I'll be near a TV studio again anytime soon.
