I've been chatting away with [livejournal.com profile] sparklielizard all morning and she inspired me to post some pictures of my dogs in Brazil. Most of my friends have been going on about their cats or their mice, so I figured it was about time I fawned over some pets of my own. Honestly, I do miss them loads. Pets don't demand anything from you other than fun, attention and food. They are a bit like family, without the recriminations and drama (except when they are hungry, or they hear the word w.a.l.k. and get all agitated.)

They are all living with my mom at the farm, so all the scenery is from Corrego do Bom Jesus (the name of the nearby village).

This is Tony. My mom found him on a dirt road She posted ads everywhere but, after nobody showed interest in collecting him, she decided to keep him as a guard for the house. He weighs about 60Kg and can knock you over if you are distracted.

And here is Tony on a walk with Tamis and my brother (who photographed this) around the hills nearby.

This is Tete. Some people call her, unfairly, a "spoiled little princess that likes to piss everywhere" (I'm quoting my boyfriend). She has chewed off the face of a couple of aunts of mine who dared speak to me in her presence. She doesn't sleep outside with the rest of the dogs. And she won't let any other dog inside the house when she's there. She's such a cutie.

This is Marcelinho, one of Tete's 7 children. The vet said he was slightly obese, but I like to think of him as big boned. He's been lately getting a lot of exercise in the morning by running up the mountain to bark at the cows (as if they cared!) then running back down.

If you squint your eyes, you can see Tete, Marcelinho, and her daughter Radija ("the cross-eyed one", according to my brother) doing their matinal race up the mountain to bark at the cows. Can you guess which of the three is wearing a winter coat?

They're really beautiful! They've made me go all misty-eyed for my dog now!

You are lucky to live near home.

Close-ish. I probably live further away (time and effort-wise) than most people on my friends list from my parents. Most people's parents are quite local - mine are 300 miles and usually 7 hours of travel away. It's actually quicker to get to places like Sweden and stuff sometimes! I only end up spending less than a fortnight a year (and this year so far, only 5 days) visiting.

But the chance is there. It sucks how expensive the flights are to Brazil. I spend all year saving only to have to put the money into a return ticket.

Posted by [identity profile] sparklielizard.livejournal.com
Yeah, it's certainly a lot cheaper than a flight to Brazil, although at a cost of £60 each on the train it's not really cheap!

I envy those whose families live nearby :-/

But, then again, they also suffer from the "too-close-to-family-syndrome", where parents keep butting in and meddling with their lives.

True enough - although I'm blessed with parents who don't really seem to care all that much! :-)

My Dad's a bit like that. My mom, on the other hand, is very attached.

My mum is just happy so long as I ring her once in a while and she can tell me all about her life ;-) My dad doesn't ring me often enough but that's because he's in Spain and I worry because of his cursed boat! :-/

I remember reading somewhere that curses and strife are god's gift to artists. Maybe that inspires your dad?

Posted by [identity profile] sparklielizard.livejournal.com
I should say it's more than inspired him! Certainly it's clear from some of his songs that they're influenced by things he's experienced. Not one for a quiet life, my dad. It's kinda obvious where I get it from ;-)

I actually have no idea! I've never really tried with anyone else around. I can normally hit a note but it depends on the day, whether I'm ill, how much practice I've had etc etc. My little (20) brother sings the best out of all of us.

I'm going to ask you to sing next time we meet. :P

You'd have to get me very drunk!!

Posted by [identity profile] commonpeople.livejournal.com
I'll get you very drunk then! *my oh my! we sure have talked about a LOT of things today!*

:)

what are you upto tonight?

on 2004-10-20 09:15 am (UTC)
Posted by [identity profile] sparklielizard.livejournal.com
I think 90% of my emails today were comment notifications from you ;-)

I'm heading off for steak with Zazz in Angel. You're more than welcome to come along (with or without Kevin!) as it's a social-thang, and in fact it would be great to see you!

Posted by [identity profile] commonpeople.livejournal.com
As it happens, it's my turn to cook dinner tonight (we have shifts, so I cook every four days.) But thank you anyways... I hope it's fun.

By the way, 99.9% of my comment notifications were from you! I still remember how it was all early and stuff when we started chatting... now the birds have gone to sleep.

What time do you usually leave work?

on 2004-10-20 09:26 am (UTC)
Posted by [identity profile] sparklielizard.livejournal.com
I normally cook during the week, and the Steven sometimes does the roast, or I do. He normally does the washing up though :-)

I normally get into work at just gone 9, and normally leave between half five and six but the last few days have been a bit mixed up. Will certainly change when I start my new job!

on 2004-10-20 09:29 am (UTC)
Posted by [identity profile] commonpeople.livejournal.com
I know! I hope you have a better time in the new job. A lot of your posts show how frustrated you are with the present one. :)

Hopefully, yes! On the downside, it does mean that if it is good I won't be here so much :-/

But then you can use it when you get home. That's what I'm planning when I get my computer.

on 2004-10-21 06:16 am (UTC)
Posted by [identity profile] sparklielizard.livejournal.com
I already do use it when I get home, but only sometimes. Most evenings I'm not online as I spend quality time with Steve and the kittens. 90% of my lj and email time is when I'm at work!

Posted by [identity profile] commonpeople.livejournal.com
Maybe you could say to yourself "i'm using it for only an hour at night".

Doesn't really work like that. If one of us goes up to the computer, that's the evening spent on the computer. Far easier to just not go near it at all!!

Tete is cute, but she does sound like a real bitch!

ha!ha! Get it???

A Bitch!

She's the biggest petite bitch I know! To have 7 kids on one go takes a lot of bitch-ness.

She spends winter under blankets because she's so cold so my mom thought about buying her a little coat.

hahaha I love it when dogs bark at things that could care less like cows or potted plants.

My mom says that every morning they run up the mountain, bark at the cows for a few minutes, then run back down. The funny thing for me is that they are so tiny, almost like little rodents, and yet they think they are bossing around these giant cows.

Awww, I love Tete and Marcelinho, they're so cute! I have a dog called Brigitte Bardot and she looks just like Marcelinho. I'll post a glamourous picture of her sometime soon, hehe :)

Awww cute dog-o-rinos :) (as they are known in my house)

I love me kitty - but dogorinos are cool too - and Tete has such a 'queen of all she surveys' look in that pic

Tony reminds me of my Mum's dog -lovable but apt to accidentally floor you if you're not paying attention :)

Oh yes, Tony is exactly like that! He thinks its all play and fun to cake your clothes with mud and wrestle you to the ground.

And yes, Tete is a bit of a Queen. She's even got the nails. ;)
