on 2005-05-27 02:47 pm (UTC)This reminds me of what we did to Guatemala in the 50's with United Fruit- We wanted bananas to be easier and cheaper for Americans, we overthrew the governement and set up a puppet. Now we want oil more affordable for Americans - onward to Iran and Iraq!

on 2005-05-27 04:54 pm (UTC)I do understand that at the time America was fighting a cold war and feared that Brasil was going to the commies... but it still strikes me as wrong that they shouldn't like what we democratically decided was best for us.
