"I have met Saddam Hussein exactly the same number of times as Donald Rumsfeld met him. The difference is Donald Rumsfeld met him to sell him guns and to give him maps the better to target those guns. I met him to try and bring about an end to sanctions, suffering and war, and on the second of the two occasions, I met him to try and persuade him to let Dr. Hans Blix and the United Nations weapons inspectors back into the country...."

- British Member of Parliament George Galloway, testifying before a U.S. Senate committee to refute charges of corruption in connection to the Iraq oil-for-food program.

I bet the U.S. Senate is not used to hearing foreigners tell them "like it is". :)

I hope more of that gets out- our government is full hypocrites....

This reminds me of what we did to Guatemala in the 50's with United Fruit- We wanted bananas to be easier and cheaper for Americans, we overthrew the governement and set up a puppet. Now we want oil more affordable for Americans - onward to Iran and Iraq!

Sound familiar?

America also influenced Brasil's military regime. They backed the military to overthrow a left-wing political party that was democratically elected and, because of that, we suffered three decades of "loss" when we could have been pushing forward with our economic development.

I do understand that at the time America was fighting a cold war and feared that Brasil was going to the commies... but it still strikes me as wrong that they shouldn't like what we democratically decided was best for us.

Yeah, heaven forbid other countries decide for themselves what's best for them- hot dogs and apple pie for EVERYONE, and you'll like it!

*sigh*

Sometimes I wish my country would go on time out and think about what its done, then come down and apoligize- haha
