The Evil Rave in my Head

For the past month I've been hearing this weird pulse in my head, close to my right ear. I thought at first that I was finally able to hear my heartbeat without relying on my fingers. Then I got concerned when it appeared to be so irregular: I thought I was on the verge of an aneurism.

I went to see the NT's nurse on my lunch break and she said I probably have tinnitus. I've made an appointment to see my GP Monday morning.

I've gone through the list of potential causes for this but I can't explain its appearance. I'm thinking it could be related to the swimming pool, or maybe because I swallow Nurofen like candy. I'm hoping -- everyone cross your fingers and paws for me -- that it's only earwax buildup. I don't even want to think of hearing loss (which I already have because of being a stupid teenager that listened a lot to his walkman).

I'm no longer in the mood for going to Lady Luck Club tonight.

awww. I hope you are alright! I have a lot ringing in my ears, but I have never bothered to get in investigated. I figure it's because I have that fuzzy phone noise in my head all day from my work headset.

You might also have tinnitus then. It's not painful or anything for me, but I want to have it checked out and make sure that it's not the beginning of something more serious. :o/

yeah i am sure I have hearing loss because there have been shows that I have went to, and I couldn't hear anything after and my ear rang for days!

[identity profile] rebellemichelle.livejournal.com 2006-01-20 05:49 pm (UTC)(link)
I should also say that the only time the ringing really seems to be very noticable is at night, when I am watching tv.

I've had the same problem during a few gigs, but thankfully it only lasted one day. Weren't you planning on going to the doctor soon? If yes, then ask him/her about it!

i'll cross my fingers and toes for you and i'll press my thumbs too (this is the German idiom for crossing fingers). Take care love xxx

Cheers. No, I'll be ok. I'm not in pain or anything, so I'm optimistic.

ohhh! that's sad, ollie!
what's nurofen?
i hope the symptoms magically disappear with the elf i send to you in the night. also, your shoes will be fixed.

[identity profile] commonpeople.livejournal.com 2006-01-20 11:01 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm hoping to pour some liquid in my right ear and have a stream of gooey wax drip out of it. And then pop. And then back to normal.

Nurofen is a stronger type of aspirin. I think I've built up my resistance to it though because two of them really don't do that much to me. So now I'm stopping all that business of pill popping when my eyes are bugged out from too much computer staring.

Send the elf soon. Bed is cosy and I'm sliding in when the white horses arrive.

[identity profile] beeorkendurkey.livejournal.com 2006-01-21 12:26 am (UTC)(link)
Ooooh, that sounds like it would give me the shivers. Did it work???

The only thing that'll help me from computer eyes/head is closing my eyes and resting my head. Preferrably in a darkened room. Sometimes pot will help, but mostly I'll feel too cranky to smoke.

The elf is on his way. He asks that you leave the shoes to be cobbled out in plain view, though he'll find them regardless.

The shoes are by the front door, with all the other hundreds of shoes. Tell the elf my shoes are black and dutch-looking.

I like resting my eyes in the dark too. With music. Lying in bed. Covering my eyes with my hands made into half-shells.

Swimming pools can be bad for ear problems - chlorine doesn't kill everything - and getting water in your ear alot isn't good.

Cutting back on your ibuprofen intake might be a good idea too - just 'cos
:)

I already have hearing loss from too much walkman use and gig attendage ( must get myself a decent pair of earplugs before the next lot start again) and after the Chiefs gigs in October my ears were majorly ringing.

I've been to a few gigs recently where my ears were left ringing afterwards; maybe I should also invest on a pair of earplugs. We can't behave like we are 15 anymore! :-)

Não há de ser nada. Por via das dúvidas, já cruzei os dedos aqui =)

Obrigado. ;-)

Hey, fingers all crossed for you.

FWIW, I've given myself hearing loss over the years with stupid amounts of loud gigs and headphone music as a kid... It's only recently that people having been pointing out just how bad it's getting. Lots of sounds that others in the room have no problem hearing I just can't hear and I can't make out direction of sound that well sometimes any more. :(

Hopefully you've just got an earwax build-up. But you should try to lay off the Nurofen anyway!!

Nurofen is crossed off my list of Must Have for 2006. Yeah... I'll see what the GP has to say. It comes and goes with me, and it's more like a pulse so it's not really that irritating. Even if I have to live with it, I think I'll be alright (and I'll definetly start being more careful with loud gigs by wearing plugs if I have to... how rock & roll!)
