Random 100 Results plus Other News

The 100 Random People MeMe (or woolgathering's more aptly named "Festival of Friends") came to an end today.

Out of the 100 people I added, 14 added me back. Additionally, 2 people who were randomly wandering LJ Land were intrigued enough by the experiment to join my friends' list. On top of that, one of woolgathering's friends noticed that I was friends with her brother and sister-in-law, sparking an additional friending, and someone who had deleted me from their list back in September added me back.

As far as I know, three other LJ users took part in this experiment. I would be curious to learn their findings.

In other news, I've been in contact with the editor of a queer publication in America called "Distant Horizons" and I'm working on a short story to send to him. And my friend Henrique, whom I'm visiting for a week while in Brasil, is buying tickets for us to see Echo and the Bunnymen in Sao Paulo on the 29th of April.

Glad the "festival of friends" response has gone positively. I thought it was most gregarious and quite brave of you and woolgathering to do.

Good luck with the short story, Ollie! It would be really great and about bloody time for you to have a story published.

"Festival of Friends" was the reason I met you. ;-)

Thanks for the luck wishes. I have already published a few things, but it was when I was in university. It would be cool to finally be paid for it!

I fly on the 19th/20th, but not towards Heathrow. Perhaps you are stopping in Schipol for a change of connection and a cup of tea? ; )

Was it really through that? Nope, I believe we became friends through more than just random connections.

p.s How is the sugar-free month passing? Not long to go now, eh?
I have been thinking of you as there is a lovely lady who comes to the cafe for a cup of black coffee and just to look at the cakes. We got chatting and she told me that she has given up sugar in sympathy with a sick friend who can't have it. She comes to the shop to test her will power. The more I think of it and the longer I work in the cafe I think it's not a bad idea. Refined sugar is evil stuff. Just haven't mustered enough strength yet to let go completely.

As for sugar, I didn't find it hard at all. I didn't have any withdrawal symptons, like I would have with coffee, cigarettes, Livejournal or books. :-P

The one thing I noticed straight away was that my energy levelled into a plateau. Before, I would depend on sugar to lift me up after a heavy lunch, or a particularly boring afternoon. Nowadays, I put honey in my coffee (which I now love) and I've got used to drinking my tea with nothing. Also, I have this natural sweetner from Brasil, zero calories, called Stevita (it was discovered by Brasil's native population) and it works fine.

I'll definetly go back to sugar, but will see if I can eat less of it... specially chocolate! (YUM... can't wait for a big chocolate cake...)
