London Fog

A thick white fog (smog?) has descended upon London. We can't see anything from our windows (I took the day off and I'm at home).

You know what? I can't even see Canary Wharf's flashing skyscrapper lights. I can hear sirens though.

Edit: Argh! Could the fog have something to do with today being Friday 13th?

Weird, there's no fog in Walthamstow and I can't be more than three miles away. Unless it all cleared up in the last hour?

Nope, it's still here (though I can now somewhat see the houses near my building). I still can't see Victoria Park (which is just next door) or anything further away.

According to the BBC there is fog here too. But there isn't. The BBC lie.

I had no idea there were separate weather forecasts for Bow and Walthamstow (although they look pretty similar...)

Que macabro! Ainda bem que vc tem o 'day off' hoje e pode ficar em casa :O

Isso me lembrou uma noite em Newcastle, quando estava sentada com uns amigos numa pracinha (eu estava esperando dar a hora pra ligar pro Brasil). Devia ser por volta de meia noite quando a gente começou a notar uma neblina absurda 'vindo' das ruas que desenbocavam nessa pracinha. A coisa foi tão forte que alguns segundos depois a gente não enxergava nem 10 metros na nossa frente. Foi do mal, haha.

Olha, durou um bom tempo. A gente ficou tentando fingir que não tava com medo, mas todo mundo no final das contas resolveu ir esperar em casa, dando outras desculpas, haha. A gente desceu uma hroa depois e já tinha passado, estranhíssimo.

The fog went away just before noon and the day became beautiful and sunny. Ended up having lunch with co-workers and shopping a bit.

Do you remember how superstitious the Chinese are about the number four as it rhymes with death. When 04/04/04 (death death death) came around we all got the day off work. : D
I went by the cupcake cafe today and they had 'Friday the 13th' iced in black on the cupcakes. I gobbled up some superstition with glee.

Just a pair of gym shorts, which I already put into action this morning.

I didn't remember their superstition about the number four, though I do know they adore number 8. My dad is considered very "auspicious" by some of his friends because his birthday, 08/08, was once on 08/08/88. My mom was given the chance to number our farm when they "inaugurated" the road leading to it (named after my great-grandfather). And guess what number she gave it? 888. :-)

Actually number four in chinese (shi) has the same pronunciation as death. That's why they still avoid it so much.
