I can't believe Jason Statham is only three years older than me. That means that he was about 30 years old when he filmed The Transporter, which is just one year younger than what I am now. And there I was, a few minutes ago, watching The Transporter and wondering what it would be like to look like him in ten years time! I seriously thought he was in his late 30s, early 40s. I just came to terms with the fact that my gaydar doesn't work, and now I have to accept that I'm also no good at judging people's ages.

The Transporter was beyond silly, in the same tradition as xXx. Things were somewhat bearable until the point where he got shirtless, covered in oil and... well, if you've seen the movie, you know what I'm talking about. One of the villains was a man in his 60s with the kind of disastrous plastic surgery that only Michael Jackson could sympathise with. Still, watching a shirtless Mr Statham beat up some baddies was a nice way to pass this mellow Tuesday night.

It's not that you're crap at judging ages - he really does look very knackered.
I had no idea he was younger than me - and in The Transporter he looks several years older than I do at 35.

When/where did your gaydar fail?

My gaydar fails me all the time. I'll be talking to single female colleagues about prospective men in the building and they'll roll their eyes and tell me about these men being gay. Or I'll think someone is gay only to find out they have a girlfriend. I'm useless.

You work in the theatre - but there are STRAIGHT men? Goodness me.

We are just as surprised! However, we have handymen, janitors, and IT guys, who are all very blokey and of the school of "bums against the wall" variety.

Have you seen "Crank" yet? It's insane. I love it.

No, but I'm dying to see it ever since I read your review!

That oil scene in Transporter is probably the greatest action sequence of all time.

Surely the parachute scene in xXx is better?

I haven't seen xXx yet, but Vin Diesel is nowhere near as amazing as Jason Statham, so I just can't see him pulling something off more enjoyable than Statham slippin' and slidin' out of his enemy's grip.

Dude, when you see xXx... your whole take on the action movie genre will change. ;-)

Never saw xXx, but I do agree: The Transporter rocks. Did you see the extras on the DVD? That "oil" was actual maple syrup, and the explosion where he takes the last breath out of the dying man's lungs? He mentions getting teased about it, and takes it all good-naturedly. It definitely was a good time.

Crank was good too, but not one of his better films. I still have to say that I liked him in Snatch, and Lock Stock and Two Smoking Barrels...but then you'd get me on my Vinnie Jones kick...;)

Duh! My brain is still half-asleep; I just saw that you wrote "Crank was good too". :-P

I forgive you ;)

Saw Crank in theatres simply because it had Jason Statham. It was good, there were some parts that could have been better, but I'm sure that's just the snob in me talking. I'd say it's better to rent, but I'm always pleased to see Jason Statham either way.
