I went for a run yesterday afternoon and something fell into my left eye – a speck from a tree. Went home and washed it, woke up this morning with a red-eye and endless tears (for the world.)

My brother took me into town for some eye drops and we witnessed the arrival of panic buying in our local supermarket. For brasilians, though, the first item to go was sugar. Oil was also popular. Plenty of toilet paper still available.

Friends in São Paulo messaged me to explore the idea of quarantining with us.

The commune idea is no longer far-fetched.

How is Brasil doing? I do not recall seeing many of it in the news (which is a great thing at these times).

The numbers are low here yet, but they are spread out across the country. I fear the worst to be honest. 215 million people, most of them semi-illiterate - plus a president who was calling the pandemic a "fantasy" and "invention of the left" (he's far-right) not too long ago... we have the worst leaders and a population who don't understand how it's transmitted. A lot of disinformation traveling around. But where I live everything is shut down, people are more scared.
