Nice Day for a White Wedding

Ever since Sissy Jen's wedding a month ago, I've been wondering what it would be like to marry Kevin. What kind of ceremony would we hold? Would it be a big affair? A small event? And what exactly do gay couples do when they get married? I have never been to a gay ceremony so I was struggling to come up with theoretical ideas.

That is, until a colleague of mine sent me the photos below from an acquaintance's wedding.

These have made me feel really inspired and now I'm looking forward to the day when Kevin and I can be joined in matrimony under the eyes of God, our family and friends. Now I just need to figure out a way to get the money for it!

Oh my god, I'm all teary at the thought! You would look so beautiful in that dress, and Kevin would look so handsome in his orange accessories (or, y'know, the other way round, it's really up to you two; hell, how about both wearing the dress, but with an orange cravat-and-hanky combo thrown in for good measure?)

I'm a little confused by the number of apparent brides in those pictures, but whatever makes them happy. Please may I be a bridesmaid, i those exact orange-sherbert dresses? Please? It's such a stunningly flattering colour, I just know I'd look gorgeous (although not gorgeous enough to outshine you and Kevin, obviously!).

More seriously, the only same-sex wedding celebration I've been to so far involved tours round Hackney in a pink stretch limo full of lesbians of a certain age. But that's a bit passé, you should do something different, I think.

This entire comment is amazing. I also say that you would look so, so stunning in that dress. At our pretend/futuretime wedding, Rob and I are going to wear neon pink (me) and neon green (him) so we clash beautifully. His pants have to be 3 inches too short as well, with white socks and beige shoes.

[identity profile] commonpeople.livejournal.com 2009-09-02 03:30 pm (UTC)(link)
I have a serious phobia of men in pants that are too short!

[identity profile] triplescience.livejournal.com 2009-09-02 03:43 pm (UTC)(link)
I know what you mean, it's completely grim! We just like to ~~shock~~ and really challenge people's perceptions of what makes a comfortable wedding.

Or we could have people inside the trouser legs? I think it's about time someone brought back baggy trousers.

[identity profile] stevek.livejournal.com 2009-09-02 02:42 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm a little confused by the number of apparent brides in those pictures

So am I.

I have a suspicion those dresses were also hiding very large toilet rolls. ;-)

And before anyone asks, I'm not volunteering to be a bridesmaid, especially if it involves wearing orange. It's *so* not my colour!

[identity profile] commonpeople.livejournal.com 2009-09-02 03:36 pm (UTC)(link)
Even if I pick my wedding day to be on the same date as Vagabonds? (can't you just see everyone's face as we stumble in?)

[identity profile] stevek.livejournal.com 2009-09-02 05:08 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm not sure there'd be enough room in the venue for a dress of that size and consistency! ;-)

[identity profile] commonpeople.livejournal.com 2009-09-02 03:30 pm (UTC)(link)
Maybe I should go around hackney in a pink fire engine with a bunch of shirtless firemen?

[identity profile] sushidog.livejournal.com 2009-09-02 03:34 pm (UTC)(link)
Yes, yes you should. And I should join you.

("Pink Fire Engine" is totally a really bad euphemism used in dreadful fanfic, I'm sure of it.)

[identity profile] moral-vacuum.livejournal.com 2009-09-02 04:47 pm (UTC)(link)
"The little fireman" was a penile euphemism used by Steve Martin in "All of me."

[identity profile] moral-vacuum.livejournal.com 2009-09-02 05:09 pm (UTC)(link)
It's lovely how the bright orange accessories coordinate with the bright orange fake tans.

[identity profile] nisaba.livejournal.com 2009-09-02 02:13 pm (UTC)(link)
Oooooooh! *bursts into tears* Why didn't I think of THAT for my wedding?!? Doncha know you're not supposed to show a bride a dress more beautiful than her's after her wedding! So jealous. My wedding seems like a pathetic shallow sham now.

[identity profile] sushidog.livejournal.com 2009-09-02 02:16 pm (UTC)(link)
OMG, BRIDE WARS!

(You just _know_ it would be hit TV. Actually, I'm totally going to pitch that to Living TV; it'll be like Four Weddings but with mud wrestling, and only the winner is actually allowed to get married at all. I'm going to be rich!)

[identity profile] triplescience.livejournal.com 2009-09-02 02:30 pm (UTC)(link)
Bride Wars is already a film with Kate Thingy and some other yawnsville brunette actress (helpful). I was forced to see it with a group of girlfriends, sob!

[identity profile] sushidog.livejournal.com 2009-09-02 02:34 pm (UTC)(link)
Bugger, all my best ideas have already been had.
Mind you, I'm only pitching it to Living TV; I'm fairly sure originality is not a pre-requisite!

[identity profile] commonpeople.livejournal.com 2009-09-02 03:38 pm (UTC)(link)
And there's also this new reality show where brides compete against each other for the best wedding... by attending each other's wedding and voting! Very, very bitch TV...

[identity profile] commonpeople.livejournal.com 2009-09-02 03:38 pm (UTC)(link)
Well, there's always the renewal ceremony...

[identity profile] sallypointzero.livejournal.com 2009-09-02 02:22 pm (UTC)(link)
"Orange-Sherbert"
Apricot-Fizz!
! gorgeous!

I am afraid I will not be attending your wedding. God would never support a union formed amidst such a horrific lack of fashion sense.

[identity profile] commonpeople.livejournal.com 2009-09-02 03:39 pm (UTC)(link)
I'll cry if you are not my flower girl.

Only if I can grab Kevin's breast during the photo session.

I'd love to see the expression on her face if you made her wear that. It would be a formative moment, that's for sure.

[identity profile] commonpeople.livejournal.com 2009-09-02 03:41 pm (UTC)(link)
Maybe they'll become sweethearts! :-P

[identity profile] commonpeople.livejournal.com 2009-09-02 03:40 pm (UTC)(link)
I want a whole army of flowergirls - she can definitely be one of them.

[identity profile] msanthropist.livejournal.com 2009-09-02 03:04 pm (UTC)(link)
I want to be in it! I'd like to wear Lime Green to contrast with the lovely orange...could we all dance in like the "Forever" wedding party but to something by Queen...say, Bohemian Rhapsody?!

[identity profile] commonpeople.livejournal.com 2009-09-02 03:42 pm (UTC)(link)
or Prince's "When Doves Cry"

[personal profile] izzybees 2009-09-02 03:48 pm (UTC)(link)
If you're going to play Queen, it has to be "Somebody to Love."

[identity profile] pixxers.livejournal.com 2009-09-02 04:33 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm sorry, but upon viewing these photos all I could imagine is that this ceremony is a prelude to a filthy troika porno. It's the blonde's fault, really. I mean, that dress...

[identity profile] commonpeople.livejournal.com 2009-09-03 09:51 pm (UTC)(link)
I don't think I should Google troika porno to find out what it is.

[identity profile] desayuno-ingles.livejournal.com 2009-09-02 06:03 pm (UTC)(link)
my eyes! my eyes! that has got to be in England.

[identity profile] commonpeople.livejournal.com 2009-09-03 09:51 pm (UTC)(link)
Is it really that obvious? ;-)

[identity profile] desayuno-ingles.livejournal.com 2009-09-04 01:45 am (UTC)(link)
pues, si!!!

[identity profile] guignolhornpipe.livejournal.com 2009-09-04 02:35 pm (UTC)(link)
Only mad dogs and Englishmen...

[identity profile] naturalbornkaos.livejournal.com 2009-09-02 06:38 pm (UTC)(link)
Wow, fantastic.

I love the one where the bridesmaid appears to be groping the bride's breast. That's classy.

[identity profile] commonpeople.livejournal.com 2009-09-03 09:52 pm (UTC)(link)
It's more like tweaking than grabbing.

[identity profile] petercampbell.livejournal.com 2009-09-02 06:41 pm (UTC)(link)
"Now I just need to figure out a way to get the money for it!"

The pages of Hello beckon.

Won't somebody think of the children!?

[identity profile] commonpeople.livejournal.com 2009-09-04 09:21 am (UTC)(link)
Let the children's laughter reminds us how we used to be.

God, those photos are hideous.
