Hunx and His Punx, Gay Singles, Feb 2010
Hunx and His Punx are the most adorable band on the planet. They've certainly made my 2010 more colourful and special - now I hope they get their leather-clad skinny butts across the ocean and play some gigs in the UK.  I think it's the spirit of the New York Dolls and the Ramones in their Motown lyrics that clenched the deal for me.  If the Crystals had been singing love songs for gay boys in the 60s, this is what they would have sounded like.  So effortlessly easy and obvious, like it should have existed decades ago.  Hunx are backed by girls straight out of John Waters' films in their videos and they pulverise with every smile my very easily impressed heart.  Gay Singles is a compilation of singles (plus B-sides?) they have released since 2008.  When not busy living rock'n'roll lives, some of the band members run a hair salon in Oakland called Down at Lulu's.

Oh man, I'm totally going to that hair salon someday. I went to grad school in Oakland. It's about an hour and 15 minutes from where I live (in Sacramento). When you come out to visit Cali we'll make a special trip there... :)
