Kirsten and Nick Tie the Knot

After a night of heavy drinking, I always sleep little and wake up with the chickens. I'm nursing a cup of tea and a total eclipse of my brain cells (probably dead from a concoction of red wine, Stella Artois, champagne and vodka & cokes.) But if that's the price to pay for a great Saturday night, for making the most of a wedding celebration, then so be it. I hope those goddamn brain cells never come back.
My mom sent me two Best of 80s CDs inside a metal box as a birthday gift (which I collected from the post office yesterday). They've been making me company this morning while Kevin sleeps away his hangover and London slowly wakes up to a bright Sunday. Some of the songs -- A-ha's "Take on Me" and Simple Minds' "Don't You (Forget About Me)" -- remind me of the dancefloor last night (which for some unusual reason I didn't visit). It was the kind of dancefloor any wedding party drifts to after the toasts and meals are over: parents dancing to 60s rock, rockers letting their hair down to 70s glamrock and girls lipsynching to their favourite 80s electropop.
I haven't been to many weddings in my life -- this was the third in the past 6 years -- but it was obvious from the start that Nick and Kirsten's knot-tieing was going to be a special night. Kevin & I unfortunately missed the wedding ceremony, but we caught up with the retinue as they arrived at the Trafalgar Tavern, an old-style pub in Greenwich with grand rooms and balconies that face the Thames and Canary Wharf. I imagine the bride and groom will remember little of their wedding day, because of all the stress of preparation and of having to sail through such a special night. I must, therefore, tell them it was a wonderful party, filled with great food, conversations, speeches and well-behaved children. Thank you Nick and Kirsten for inviting us!
Although everyone claimed their table to be the liveliest, I really think ours won out in the end. Not only did our conversation naturally veer from Axl Roses to oral sex in the space of minutes but we also threw napkins and chocolate wrappers at nearby tables -- the perfect drunk juveniles. I was happy Kevin finally got to meet so many of my LJ friends; hopefully he'll feel less shy about coming out in the future because he'll know he is also welcome. It was also lovely to see people again I haven't spoken to in ages, and just generally enjoy their company. Great conversations were had in the following topics: moths that survive cleavages, the benefits of tango dancing, the avoidance of controversial people, bumsex & bananas, German food in Greece, the death of dance music, shoes that wreck your feet, going back to university as a mature student and the joys of continental Europe. I'm sure more was discussed, but those conversations are probably gone with the brain cells.
Next Saturday we have a Trad Goth theme party to attend, and a tea & scones gathering on Sunday... can't wait! The busier your weekend, the slower Monday arrives.

on 2006-10-01 11:57 am (UTC)actually, when i was... 15?... two of my cousins got married at my house, to each other. it was kind of awesome just because it was at my house, which was just a normal suburban L.A. house, not tons of room or anything, and plus two of my cousins were getting married! wild. but it was nothing special in terms of hanging out. most of the crowd was like off-duty cops [the groom was a Marine].
